Spousal Support

Spousal support is an amount of money paid monthly from one spouse to another after separation or divorce. The income and standard living of each spouse plays a substantial factor in a judge's decision to award spousal support. For example, if Robert and Linda are married for 11 years and Robert makes $10,000 per month and Linda is a housewife with no income, a judge will most likely award Linda spousal support in the event that they separate or divorce. There are several factors involved in calculating the amount in which spousal support is paid.
Over time, spousal support payment may change if the party's circumstances change. Not having professional help may have detrimental consequences in establishing or modifying an order for spousal support.
